We warmly welcome you to join us for an evening of education, entertainment, theatre and local artpieces, a silent auction, raffle, delicious food and drinks, and more! If you are interested in human rights and social causes, are keen on theatre and/or art that addresses social issues, would like to learn more about human trafficking in Alberta, or are just looking for a unique night out, Spero Gala is the event for you!
We are pleased to announce our 6th annual Spero Gala, an evening to support the work of ACT Alberta.
Many people know that human trafficking occurs overseas. Some even know that it happens in Canada. But few know that it is happening right here, in Alberta. Just as human trafficking relies on networks of people willing to exploit others, ending human trafficking requires a network of people willing to help. We call on you as members of the community to join the response and enjoy Spero Gala.
ACT Alberta was born in 2010 in response to an exponentially increasing rate of human trafficking victims in need of supports in Alberta. Since then, ACT Alberta has steadily and consistently developed effective programs to combat human trafficking through education, community awareness, collaborative partnerships with community and government, and direct face-to-face support of victims of human trafficking. Victims have experienced a harrowing ordeal that has subjected them to forms of trafficking including sex trafficking, labor trafficking, and harvesting and/or removal of organs. ACT Alberta continues to grow as the sole agency in Alberta that does this specialized work.
The fabulous evening of Spero Gala will include a theatre production by the incredibly talented Poiema Productions that tells a story of human trafficking, silent auction of various attractive items including a collection of original art pieces, delicious food and drinks from Acapella catering, a Talk Back Question & Answer segment, and Global News TV anchor Nancy Carlson to emcee the evening. Spero Gala will take place in the ATB Financial Arts Barns (10330 84 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB). Tickets are $50 at eventbrite.com or can be purchased at the door for $60.
