About Greenalta Farms

Emmanuel arrived 8 months ago to Greenalta Farms, knowing that agriculture work is often hard, but comforted by promises of good conditions.

The living conditions provided, though, were shocking: 15 workers sharing a poorly insulated building with a single broken toilet. He and his coworkers' meals were provided, but the food was cold and had minimal nutritional value. The workers were forced to work long hours without breaks or days off and their rate of pay was lower than promised.

Emmanuel had to claim he was summoned by Immigration Canada for a meeting in order to get permission to leave the farm and come to the agency today. If he is caught, his employer will fire him. Because his permit is a Closed Permit, he would not be able to find work elsewhere and would be deported.

You ask for his immigration and identification documents and he informs you that the boss holds all official documents and he and his coworkers have not been able to get them back.
